Saint Mark Parish News
Updated for December 4th, 2022
Dear St Mark Family,
Welcome to the 2nd Sunday Advent and Baptism Weekend! Have you noticed our new theme for the Season with the Advent banner outside! We still have Advent reflection prayer books available for this short, yet meaningful Season.
Remember on Sundays after both Masses, our Religious Formation Office is offering a "Spiritually Caffeinated" moment for Advent. Take a moment to spiritually caffeinate yourself! A a cup of coffee (and a donut) pair nicely with lively – caffeinated - discussion. You are invited to join us in the conference room to chat about life, scripture and the gospel. This simple gesture will help prepare our hearts for the coming of the our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
The parish office will be open this Sunday from 9am to 1pm and then Monday through Thursday (9am to 3pm). The Religious Formation Office is also open Monday through Thursday (9am to 3pm) and on Sunday (9am to 2pm).
Our Daily Mass schedule this week, remains at 8:30am and 7pm for the Wednesday evening Mass with rosary at 6:30pm. This Thursday, Dec 8th, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, with Masses at 8:30am and 7pm, this is one of those few celebrations in the year that are Holydays of Obligation.
The Knights of Columbus continue their "Keep Christ in Christmas" Christmas card sales after all weekend Masses in the Commons!
This Sunday, Dec 4th, at 7pm, our Music Ministry is offering a special event to enliven this special season as we prepare for the coming of Christmas with "A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols". This will be a wonderful celebration for the entire family! We will have programs, along with a QR code to download to your phone or find it online. Hot cocoa to follow in the Great Hall.
Our Christmas giving tree is available online, or with $25 gift cards in the Christmas box in the Commons or with the angel tags on the Commons Christmas trees. The Giving Tree activity concludes on Sunday, Dec 18th, at 11am.
As Fr Anthony shared at all the Masses last weekend, since we were unable to have the Christmas tree sales this year, we are asking folks who normally purchase a tree to make a donation to the Christmas Tree fund and support the parish ministries our Christmas tree lot normally supports. Thank you as always for your generosity!
Looking ahead our Parish Advent Penance Service will be on Thursday, Dec 15th, at 7pm. We will have plenty of confessor priests on hand to help prepare the celebration of Christmas and the coming of Christ in our lives.
On Saturday, Dec 17th, at the 5:30pm Mass, besides celebrating the 4th Sunday of Advent, we will also celebrate one of the Novena - Simbang Gabi Masses. A simple reception in the Great Hall will follow.
UGANDA - Fr. Anthony will be leaving for Uganda after Christmas this year and will be gone for the month of January. He is often asked by parishioners what they might give him to bring to Uganda for our brothers and sisters there. This year, if anyone is interested, he will be collecting the following specific items to take in his suitcase. What is requested: 1) new or gently used FLAT (NO FITTED, PLEASE) queen sized sheet and pillowcase sets. Each sheet set will consist of 2 flat sheets and 2 pillowcases; or 2) new deflated soccer balls without packaging to fit into a suitcase. There will be a marked box inside the church office near the bookkeeper's office for any donations. Thank you so much in advance if you choose to help!
