From Fr. Eric Asamoah
The Lord today calls us to respond generously to the Gospel’s call to love, placing God at the Centre of our lives and dedicating ourselves to the service of our brothers and sisters, especially those most in need of support and consolation.
If ever there is an attitude that is never easy, even for a Christian community, it is precisely how to love oneself, to love after the Lord’s example and with his grace. Sometimes disagreements, pride, envy, divisions, leave their mark even on the beautiful face of the Church.
In the Gospel Christ promises that he will ask the Father to send us another Defender, an Advocate, who is always with us, the Spirit of Truth. This Spirit of Truth strengthens us in the proclamation of the good news and leaving out our call to love as Christ loved us.
Through acts of Charity Philip goes to Samaria and preaches the Word of God to the people, performing many miraculous signs and healings, which resulted in many people believing and being baptized. A community of Christians should therefore live in the charity of Christ by the Grace of the Holy Spirit.
The Church finds the inexhaustible source of her very mission, which is achieved through love, in this mystery of communion. Hence St Peter admonishes us in the second reading to treat others with respect, even those who despise the gospel we preach. It is all about love and respect for God and for one another.
We pray for mothers and all mother figures today. A mother’s love comes naturally to family and society. Being a mother involves taking on the role of a caregiver, teacher, and spiritual leader (catechist) within the family, creating an environment that fosters growth, love, and Godliness. Just as a mother tends to her child’s needs, God tends to our spiritual needs, offering us guidance, love, and protection. (Isaiah 66:13).
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY.
